67th Avenue Improvements:  The City of Glendale’s 67th Avenue corridor improvements project is beginning construction in early May 2008.  This project includes two different segments of 67th Avenue as follows:

67th Avenue – Camelback Road to Glendale Avenue:  Achen-Gardner Engineering will begin constructing improvements along 67th Avenue from Camelback to Glendale beginning tentatively in May 2008 and scheduled to be complete in January 2009.  Improvements include SRP irrigation line replacement on the west side, new curb, gutter, sidewalk, and driveways at select locations, undergrounding of some of the overhead power distribution lines, landscaping, bus shelter pads, street lighting, traffic signal improvements, slurry sealing and restriping the roadway.

67th Avenue – Olive Avenue to the ACDC Channel:  Sundt Construction will begin constructing improvements along 67th Avenue for approximately 2 ˝ miles, from Olive Avenue to the ACDC Channel (just north of Thunderbird Road), in May 2008 and scheduled to be complete in April 2009.  This project is a joint project of the Cities of Glendale and Peoria.  Improvements include installing storm drain pipe ranging in diameter from 24”-60”, SRP irrigation line replacement in some areas, adding turn lanes, new curb/gutter/sidewalk at select locations, undergrounding of some of the overhead power distribution lines, landscaping, street lighting, and traffic signal improvements at the intersections of Olive, Cactus, Thunderbird and Sweetwater.

Current Construction Activity and Locations:

Work is scheduled to begin in early May 2008, just north of Peoria Avenue with the installation of the storm drain pipe.  The alignment for this pipe is very close to the center of 67th Avenue, so traffic will be restricted one lane in each direction to the curb lanes, with left turns restricted, while construction takes place in the center of the roadway.  This installation will begin just north of Peoria Avenue and move in a northerly direction to just north of Thunderbird Road, with the storm drain pipe ranging in diameter from 66" on the south end to 44" on the north end.  This storm drain work is expected to take approximately two months to complete.

In addition, work will begin the week of May 12th at the intersection of 67th Avenue and Cactus Road.  This intersection is scheduled for improvements to include right turn lanes, bus bays, sidewalk and curb improvements, traffic signal improvements, and median islands north and south of Cactus on 67th Avenue.  Work will begin at the northeast corner as the contractor constructs the right turn lane for westbound traffic turning northbound, to include the curb and sidewalk improvements.

As construction activities move, those neighborhoods and businesses most directly impacted will be notified via mailers, personal contact, or project signage.  For an updated listing of current mailings, please visit the Communications webpage.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued patience during this construction.
